Paris is one of the perfect destinations for couples planning to wed or elope. The remarkable monuments such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre in addition to the beautiful old world architecture in the city of love provide the most romantic environment. The fashion and exquisite culinary creations that include freshly baked macaroons complete the sophistication and uniqueness of the city. The rich history and abundance of landmarks in the city of romance is one of the reasons it has become a hot spot for celebrity couples to host their wedding in this beautiful city.

Legal Wedding Rules

It is impossible to get legally married in France if you have not been a resident there for more than 40 consecutive days. You should also provide documents such as utility bills with your name and address on them as a proof of living in France for the required period. However, this does not erase the possibility of having your dream Paris Destination Wedding. You may consider having a civil ceremony at home and then holding a symbolic ceremony in Paris.

Planning Your Wedding

Hiring a planner for your Paris wedding remains an issue of concern for most couples. Getting a Paris-based wedding planner improves the quality of the services you get and reduces the hassle of getting quality vendors and suppliers. All you need is get to Paris and enjoy your dream wedding as your planner takes care of everything. Alternatively, you can consider planning your wedding from home by locating the vendors online and communicating with them via email. You should, however, be ready with a Google translate since most vendors speak French.

Wedding Locations

You will be spoiled for choices while searching the perfect locations for your Paris Destination Wedding. You may choose to get married in front of the symbolic Eiffel Tower or the monumental Notre-Dame Cathedral. You can also consider holding your Paris Destination Wedding at St Joseph Catholic, which is the only English speaking Catholic Church in the city. Most churches are French speaking although some allow a native-speaking priest to co-officiate the ceremony.

Reception Locations

The wedding reception venues in Paris are the best in the world. You may choose to hold your dream wedding reception in a serene environment surrounded by forests and castles like the Chateau de Brou or go for a modern and exquisite look of hotels like the Hotel Plaza Athenee. The atmosphere on almost every location you get to is inviting while they offer customized services that suit your needs. Most reception venues give a choice between an indoor or outdoor area.

Paris holds few weddings during the summer period, which runs from July 15 to August 15. This means that most vendor stores may close for almost a month. You should make necessary arrangements to avoid the inconveniences that come with inadequate supplies on your wedding day. A Paris Destination Wedding will always be one of the most memorable moments in your life. Therefore, you do not want to miss anything that the City of Love has to offer.

Iceland Weddings

Iceland Destination Weddings

Iceland, the land of Fire and Ice, has become a popular tourist and wedding destination in the last few years with its glaciers, geothermal pools, majestic waterfalls, an active volcano, and friendly people every photo promises to be postcard perfect. With recent celebrity visitors like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Jay Z and Beyonce Iceland is fast becoming the hot travel destination for Americans.

Having your wedding in Iceland could be the perfect way to whittle down your guest list without hurting anybody’s feelings. Even though Iceland is not that far to travel, not everyone who would be able to make it to your US wedding will be able to attend a wedding in Iceland. It’s also a nifty way to combine your wedding ceremony with your honeymoon as there is so much to do in Iceland once your nuptials are over.

Iceland is not very icy. Only 11 percent of Iceland is covered with ice, and the temperature in Summer is usually between 50-55, so brides do need to think about a coat. When New York Fashion Director Mosha Lundstrom Halbert was married in Iceland on New Year’s Eve, she asked her mother, designer Linda Lundstrom to design her dress. Knowing that all Icelandic brides should also have a coat Lundstrom’s design has made waves in nuptial outerwear.

To make your marriage legal, you need to make sure you send all marriage paperwork including your Iceland Marriage License to the National Registry Office in Reykjavik at least two weeks before your wedding date, earlier just to be on the safe side.

Because Icelandic weddings have become so popular, booking a venue for your reception, a photographer, or a church requires at least six months notice if you plan to get married during Summer. There are many wedding companies in Iceland who will make all of the arrangements for you. Make sure you don’t end up with the Icelandic delicacy of raw puffin heart on your menu!

Even if you get married in a church you will want to make use of the stunning scenery for your wedding photos so keep this in mind when packing, no sense twisting an ankle or ruining your expensive wedding shoes when you could have packed some sensible walking shoes for the photo shoot.

Different and unusual options include getting married inside a glacier and burying your wedding vows there for eternity, or on the edge of a waterfall, the mist making it feel like you are up in the clouds with the Norse Gods. An Icelandic wedding will certainly be a wedding to remember.

What are Destination Weddings?

There are so many different definitions, of what is or isn’t a destination wedding. defines a destination wedding as having to be more than 100 miles from the bride. That seems a little silly and arbitrary to us. We like the wikipedia and Reuters definition much better.

“Not to be confused with an elopement, a destination wedding is one in which a wedding is hosted, often in a vacation-like setting, at a location to which most of the invited guests must travel and often stay for several days. This could be a beach ceremony in the tropics, a lavish event in a metropolitan resort, or a simple ceremony at the home of a geographically distant friend or relative… ”

Some of the key aspects are that you are planning a wedding for a location where you do not live. A nice general rule of thumb is that you are taking a plane to get there, or that it wouldn’t be unreasonable to take a plane to your wedding location.

What makes Destination Weddings so great?

Imagine your absolute paradise. Is it sipping fruity drinks on the beach in Mexico? Or listening to big surf-able waves crash over the sounds of a luau in Maui, Hawaii? Maybe, you want to be secluded in the mountains of Colorado? Or in a rain forest in Costa Rica or Puerto Rico?

Wherever your personal paradise is, about the only thing that can make it better is best celebration of your life with your favorite person in the whole world.
